Dec 29, 2016  I recently upgraded from Office 2011 to Office 2016 for Mac. I can no longer type a simple numbered outline. I can see how to select a numbering style from the Format tab, but when I have typed the first main piece of text, I cannot find a way of moving to the next indented level, and then to further, more indented levels.

Even though the Outline view is new for PowerPoint 2016 for Mac, it's not absolutely new since youalways had access to your presentation's text outline through the alternating Slides and Outline panes on the left side of the PowerPoint interface. What's changedthough is that you no longer need to switch tabs within the Pane, as you would doin PowerPoint 2011. Now you just access the outline within a new view! The Outline view displays all the text contained within the title and text placeholdersof your slides.

Here's a walkthrough of Outline view:

1. First open a presentation which has at least a few slides populated with text. Then access the View tab of theRibbon and click the Outline Viewbutton, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 1.

2. This opens the Outline Pane on the left side ofPowerPoint 2016 for Mac interface (highlighted inred within Figure 2, below). Note that this replaces theSlides Pane that shows up inNormal view. As you can see in Figure 2, below,the Outline Pane displays a list of the slide titles and text placeholders in an outline format. You can resize the Outline Pane to occupy a larger partof the onscreen area.

3. Within the Outline Pane, you can see the title and text content of the slides, as shown in Figure 3. Also, you can use the scroll barto move and navigate up and down the Outline Pane, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 3.
