36 | What are the benefits of supporting Spread Spectrum Clocking (SSC)? | Mar-02-10 |
37 | Is it possible to boot from a volume that resides on the Tempo SATA card? | Mar-02-10 |
Macintosh bootable volumes are supported on the internal 2-port PCI card (part number TSATA) but are not supported on any of the other SATA cards at this time.

39 | Can I hot-swap a disk drive that is attached to any Sonnet Tempo Serial ATA card? | Mar-23-10 |
Yes, but it depends on the computer's operating system (Mac OS or Windows). Sonnet Tempo SATA PCIe, PCI-X, PCI, and ExpressCard/34 cards support drive hot swapping only when used in Mac computers running Mac OS. SATA drive hot swapping is not supported in a desktop or server PC running Windows XP, Server 2003, or Vista. A SATA drive appears to Windows as a fixed hard drive and there is no mechanism in Windows to prepare the drive for removal except in notebook computers. Tempo SATA and SATA Pro ExpressCard/34 cards support drive hot swapping in both Mac and Windows notebook computers. |
40 | How does hot-swap functionality work? | Mar-02-10 |
42 | Can the Tempo SATA cards co-exist with other manufacturers' Serial ATA cards? | Oct-27-09 |
Often, yes. Sometimes, not. Some other manufacturers' drivers may incorrectly assume a Sonnet card is their SATA card which may cause havoc. The symptoms include significantly slower performance, driver not loading, or both drivers loading and causing and kernel panics as they both try to access the same card. Sonnet recommends removing other manufacturer's card(s) and driver(s) if a problem of this type occurs. |
43 | Can I operate a Sonnet PCIe (x4) card in a PCIe x8 or x16 slot? | Mar-02-10 |
63 | Can I operate two Tempo SATA cards in the same system? | Sep-02-09 |
106 | Is Tempo SATA E4P, E4i, X4P, or X4i compatible with Red Hat Linux? | Sep-02-09 |
Tempo SATA E4P, E4i, X4P, and X4i are supported under Red Hat Enterprise 4 Linux with Marvell (TSATAII chip set) drivers. The Marvell Linux driver supports direct connect drives but not port multipliers, so there is no compatibility with the Fusion D4Q, Fusion D5P, Fusion R4Q and Fusion R4P storage systems. As in Windows, drives must be connected at boot time. |
120 | How do I set up a RAID 0 striped array under Windows XP Professional or Vista? | Mar-23-10 |
121 | Can I set up a RAID 1 mirrored array under Windows XP or Vista? | Mar-23-10 |
No. RAID 1 mirroring is only supported under Windows Server, not Windows XP or Vista. |
404 | The Sonnet Tempo SATA card does not work with my Western Digital My Book Premium ES Edition, or Seagate Technology FreeAgent Pro. | Mar-02-10 |
Sonnet Tempo cards are compatible with most external SATA storage. However, external hard drives with USB 2.0/eSATA dual interface based on the Oxford Semiconductor OXU931DS storage controller chip may not be compatible with Mac OS X when connected via SATA. Known issues are kernel panics occurring when the drive is connected, or the drive not being recognized by the operating system. Summary of eSATA storage - Storage with eSATA alone............................compatible - Storage with Triple interfaces.........................compatible - Storage with Quad interfaces.........................compatible - Storage with eSATA plus Firewire 400 and/or 800.........compatible - Storage with port multiplier support (multiple drives).......compatible - Storage with RAID 0, 1, or 5 (multiple drives).............compatible - Storage with eSATA plus USB (based on JMicron 20366).....compatible these compatible drives include, but are not limited to: 1) OWC Mercury On-the-Go USB 2.0/eSATA 2.5' portable - Storage with eSATA plus USB (based on Oxford OXU931DS)..not compatible these incompatible drives include, but are not limited to: 1) Western Digital My Book Premium ES Edition 2) Seagate Technology FreeAgent Pro |
452 | I upgraded my Tempo SATA software in a PowerMac G4 or G5 and the card is giving a lot of system errors. | Oct-12-09 |
454 | I have connected a large hardware RAID volume (for example, a 4TB Fusion D400QR5) to a Sonnet Pro SATA card in a Macintosh, and it is showing up as only 2TB. Why? | Oct-14-09 |
Under Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.4, a volume greater than 2TB will show as a 2TB volume due to a limitation in Apple's ATA layer (just above the driver). Sonnet plans to provide a 10.4 fix in the next driver release. Under Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6, the full capacity of the RAID volume is available. |
459 | The performance of my drive array is significantly less than I expect. | Jun-14-11 |
544 | How do I uninstall the Sonnet Pro SATA Driver? | Dec-26-10 |
659 | eSATA drives won't mount after updating to OS X 10.7.4 | Jun-22-12 |
Sonnet has isolated the occurance of drives not mounting in 10.7.4, which occurs only in 32-bit mode with the Tempo SATA E4P, E4i, and Tempo SATA Pro ExpressCard/34. Users running in 64-bit mode will not experience any issue. (To boot in 64-bit, hold down the 6 and 4 keys when the Mac starts up.) Install driver 2.2.9 or greater to fix the 32-bit mode issue. |
